Mayor’s Announcements

Mayor Compton announced the following:

  • The "Humpback Bridge" project has been fast-tracked by the County. We will have to keep an eye on this project and make sure that the Town has appropriate input.
  • Washington Gas made an error in digging on Chestnut Avenue. They have corrected the problem and agreed to make reparations to the root systems of the affected trees.
  • Mr. Roberts’ brick patio at 6 Circle must not encroach on Town property. The Mayor also asked Mr. Roberts to move the pile of blue stone off of Town property and told him to expect some trimming to occur in the next couple of weeks.
  • Cator property land use is in the Shady Grove Sector Master Plan Review. (17050 Railroad Street)

Casey Property at Mill Creek Status Report

Mayor Compton talked about M-NCPPC Legacy Open Space issues with the historic part of the upper field. There was some discussion by Park & Planning about a passive park on the land. That field, along with the surrounding wetlands, would be used to satisfy the “park that never was” in the Amity area from the old Master Plan. Mayor Compton also talked about an agreement where M-NCPPC owns the property, we maintain/manage it and jointly make decisions on use issues. A discussion about annexation ensued.

Council Reports

Maintenance & Intergovernmental

In John Tomlin’s absence, Mayor Compton read Jim Fletcher’s maintenance report. The decision was made to fix the John Deere tractor at the cost of $350.00. Mr. Fletcher’s report also commented on the hanging limb across from the Kane residence on Daylily Lane. He does not think that it is a threat and will have Charlie Musser take care of it when he is in Town again.

Playgrounds

Nick Suzich reported that the people working on playground equipment narrowed the choice down to 2 pieces of equipment. Bill Glass bought the cupola for Ann’s Folly (tennis shed) and suggested that we hire someone to install it. He has the name of someone who would do it for two or three hundred dollars.

Recreation, Website & McCathran Hall

Betsy Klinger reported that a Charlie Chaplin film would be shown outdoors on Sept. 1, 2002 at 7:30 p.m.. She also reported that the Website has been updated.

Municipal Infractions/Code Enforcement

All Council members received a document on Municipal Infractions that was done by Jim Debelius in 1994. Mayor Compton will talk to Bill Roberts, Town Attorney, about this subject. The Clerk offered to put blurb in the next Bulletin that would call for volunteers to work on this project.

Review Planning Commission’s proposed Master Plan updates

Mayor Compton and the Council members had a brief discussion about the commercial corner and then voted to schedule a separate work session to work on the Master Plan revision.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:25 p.m.
