Next Bulletin: could focus on removal of non-native invasive (NNI) plants around town. We have run short articles encouraging residents to do volunteer removal of species like garlic mustard. We could re-run some of the old articles on particularly prevalent NNIs. However, to effectively start work on larger plants (Bush honeysuckle being a pertinent example) we will generally want to replace the plant being removed. A list of suitable native replacement plants which are attractive and hardy should be generated. Education as to why we are doing this would be helpful. Talking to the adjacent residents adjacent to a particular NNI plant and getting their views on replacements would also be helpful. It was suggested we should draft for eventual formalization a “Replacement with Native Plants Policy”.
New Business: The Woods Committee have asked if the F&B Committee would be interested in co-sponsoring with the Womans Club of Washington Grove a workshop on rain gardens for private property owners. The idea was discussed. We concluded there is a huge array of information and resources on the County web site for rain garden and other clean water management systems. We would prefer to look into a Bulletin article on the concept and where resources are available for interested residents.
Adjourn 9 pm.
