Actions at the July 9th Council meeting included:
Authorized the Mayor to sign traffic orders which allow for enforcement of the 15 mph speed limit and the placement of new stop signs.
The following action took place at the June 11th meeting of the Town Council:
Appointed Barbara Hawk as a regular member of the Board of Zoning Appeals.
Traffic Calming/Enforcement
The July 23rd meeting of the Town Council will include further discussion about Traffic Calming and Enforcement.
Casey 6 & 7
Mayor Compton and other Town representatives will attend a meeting with an M-NCPPC planner who is involved in the preliminary plan for the Casey 6 & 7 properties. They will be asking for relocations of Amity Drive/Crabbs Branch Way and the new truck entrance for Roberts Oxygen. Both of these are too close to Brown St. extended. They will also ask for a meeting to discuss alternate routes for the proposed bike path on this plan.
LOS Condemnation
No news is….well, no news!?? We are still awaiting the judge’s rulings on various motions.

Building Permits
If you are going to erect a building or structure (including fences), make structural alterations to, or move any existing building or other structure, you must first obtain a building permit from the Washington Grove Planning Commission. The Town zoning ordinance governs setbacks, lot coverage and height. Applications are available at the Town Office at 301-926-2256. The permit fee is $10.00, payable to the Town of Washington Grove. Interior renovations, which involve electrical, plumbing, or load-bearing changes, generally require a County permit. A shed requires a County permit as well. The Town must first sign off all applications for County-required building permits. The Historic Preservation Commission will review most permits as well.

Incident Report:
June 13: Suspicious Activity. 400 block Grove Rd – Twice in the same week, resident noted suspicious car with multiple occupants parked by the garage. Small, late model white Chevrolet sedan with Maryland tags.
June 30: Vandalism/Drug activity. Maple Lake Park (West Woods) – Cigar wrappers, blunts, beer cans, liquor bottles, and other trash discovered off the trail at the same location as incident last summer.
July 5: Breaking/Entering. 400 block Brown St – Resident reported to police that someone ransacked their truck. Nothing taken.
July 8: Vandalism/Drug activity. Maple Lake Park (West Woods) – Another site of cigar blunt smoking discovered, this time on the trail off Day Lily Lane.
July 9: Suspicious Activity. 400 block Grove Rd – Resident reported two vehicles parked by the garage.
Preventing home invasion
In light of the home invasion in the development near Maple Lake that occurred early morning on July 10 with occupants asleep, Grove residents are advised to take extra precautions to protect their homes and families until these men are apprehended:
(1) lock your homes at night and when you leave; (2) lock accessible windows or use track locks; (3) leave a downstairs light on, preferably on a timer. CALL 911 IF YOU THINK SOMEONE HAS INVADED YOUR HOME!
Please report criminal or suspicious activity to your Neighborhood Watch Block Captain or Coordinators. Filing a police report, too, helps the police department keep track of criminal incidents and is necessary for police to take action. Of course, for emergency situations call 911.
Recreation Committee News

Calling Grove Artists!
The Recreation Committee will sponsor another art show this fall. It is scheduled for October 19th and 20th. Grove residents interested in participating in the art show should call Jim Fletcher 301-330-9485, Jerry Ruley 301-330-4589, or Rico Sturniolo 301-947-8881. Exhibitors will be expected to assist in set-up, clean-up, etc…
Woman’s Club News
Next meeting: There is no August meeting of The Woman’s Club.
The Annual Town potluck supper will be Friday, September 14, 2007 at the Clubhouse. Mark your calendars!
We’re Not Just Tea & Crumpets
Town residents and Woman’s Club members have asked, “Just what does the Woman’s Club do?” The Washington Grove Woman’s Club sponsor’s Town activities such as the Fall Pot Luck, Chili Supper, Egg Hunt, Flower Show, and Yard Sale. The Club also gives financial support to organizations inside and out of Washington Grove, such as Summer In The Parks, Washington Grove Elementary School, and the Acorn Library. The Clubhouse also serves as an alternate site for the Town Yoga Class. Did you know that the Town Directory, which is currently in progress, is published by the Woman’s Club? Gypsy Moths Are Here
Residents are encouraged to report heavy infestations to the Maryland Department of Agriculture in Frederick at 301-662-2074. A summary of the current conditions in Maryland can be seen at www.mda.state.md.us Look for “Gypsy Moth Current Conditions”. If you don’t have access to the internet and would like a copy of the information mentioned above, please call the Town Office. If trees in your area are experiencing Gypsy Moth defoliation the State recommends watering to reduce the stress level of the trees. Trees can benefit greatly from being watered with a slow trickle of water over several hours. Water flow should be slow enough so that there is not run-off, but that allows the water to pool and soak into the ground.

Games Night & Summer Movies
GAMES NIGHT: Wed., July 18th; 7:30 p.m. MOVIE NIGHTS: Friday, July 20th, 7:00 p.m. “Chariots of Fire”. Friday, July 25th, 7:00 p.m. “Pride of the Yankees – The Lou Gehrig Story”. Both movie nights will begin with a short, classic “Droopy D” cartoon.
Town Office Closed
The Town Office will be closed from Monday, July 23 – Tuesday, July 31st. We’ll be back in business on Wednesday, August 1st. If you need something during that time, please check with the Councilperson in charge of that area.
Be Prepared to STOP!
The intersection of Grove Rd. and Dorsey St. will soon be a 3-way stop. This action is being taken in an effort to help calm traffic in that area. This should happen at the end of August, just in time for the beginning of school.
