Policy for Residents on Town Tree Management
Reporting Town Trees in Need of Attention
If you believe a tree on Town property requires attention, please contact Audrey Maskery ([email protected]) or the Town Clerk ([email protected] or 301-926-2256).
Removal of Branches from Town Trees Overhanging Private Property
The Town conducts regular pruning throughout the residential area with a view toward general public safety, including of trees on Town property and limbs overhanging Town property.
However, due to the very large number of trees in Town, we do not prune specific tree limbs over private property at the owner’s request.
If a resident is concerned about a specific tree limb over their property, then under Maryland law you may remove the limb over your property as long as it is done by a licensed Maryland Tree Expert to ensure the tree is not damaged. A tree may not be compromised in the process, nor may the tree be cut down. All debris must be removed from Town property after the work is completed.
If you have a question about whether a tree is on town land or your own property, or if you feel work on a Town tree needs to be done on your property, please contact Audrey Maskery ([email protected]) or the Town Clerk ([email protected], or 301-926-2256).
