Recreation Committee
The Recreation Committee sponsors music concerts, health and exercise classes, and educational programs, as well as children’s and family-friendly events and neighborly get-togethers throughout the year.
Among favorite town traditions are the three-day Music Weekend, culminating in Sunday’s Baroque Breakfast; Bluestoberfest; Labor Day weekend races and games; the Fourth of July costume parade and potluck; Halloween pumpkin carving, pick-up softball games, and the Summer in the Parks program, which allows town kids to have an old-fashioned summer camp experience — even a sleep-out — without having to get on a bus.
The committee helps provide for the maintenance of the tennis courts and playground, and also serves as a sort of town host, providing plates and utensils for receptions, wine and beer (for appropriate occasions) as well as water and lemonade, snacks, flowers, etc.
In what other town might you get to see a reptile zoo, a magician, a mime, musicians, and classic movies?!
In classic Washington Grove style, committee members are an informal, all-volunteer crew. All town residents are encouraged to make suggestions for programs, and assist in grilling hot dogs or baking cookies, watering the clay tennis courts, or helping to set up or clean up once or twice a year. That’s how the Grove grooves!
