Woman’s Club Outreach Project
Donations Sought for Stepping Stones Shelter
The Woman’s Club of Washington Grove is collecting items to support the Stepping Stones
Shelter in Rockville. Stepping Stones provides emergency housing to men, women, and
children. Their philosophy is one of self- help, returning families to a posture of self-sufficiency
once they leave the shelter. Donations of paper products, toiletries of all kinds, disposable
diapers, cleaning supplies, blankets and children’s clothing in good condition are needed. Please
bring donations (or financial contributions!) to the January 18 Woman’s Club meeting, or contact
Barb Leng at 301-670-9443.
Woman’s Clubhouse Available in All Seasons!!
Planning a surprise birthday bash, family reunion, holiday gathering, graduation party, wedding
reception, business meeting . . . consider the charming wooded setting, spacious main room,
screened porch, kitchen and restroom facilities of the Woman’s Club House. For information or
reservations call Kitty Vogan at 301-840-9416. Heat and air conditioning.
Building Permits
If you are going to erect a building or structure (including fences), make structural alterations to,
or move any existing building or other structure, you must first obtain a building permit from the
Washington Grove Planning Commission. The Town zoning ordinance governs setbacks, lot
coverage, and height. Applications are available at the Town Office at 301-926-2256. Please
allow at least 10 days for review by the Commission. Call John McClelland at 301-963-3328 if
you have questions about zoning code requirements. Interior renovations, which involve
electrical, plumbing, or load-bearing changes, generally require a County permit. The Town
must first sign off all applications for County-required building permits.
FUNDRAISER FOR MOUSETRAP SERIES
This is the second year of a unique and memorable music series in our own Town Hall. The
caliber of the artists has been extraordinary for a small town series. In order to expand this
series, we are selling $15.00 raffle tickets for an original oil painting donated by Alexander
Anufriev–a Grove artist-in-residence. Sasha is a well-known international artist whose paintings
are on display and sold in galleries in Washington, Boston, New York as well as in Europe. Call
Kathie Evans for more info (301-869-7816).

Dear Residents of Washington Grove,
We, the children’s service club of Washington Grove, appreciate your
contributions to the Lord’s Table. In all, from your donations and ours we have
collected 44 tubes of toothpaste and 67 brushes. We would all like to thank you
very much for your help in making smiles and happy holidays for some of the
people who can’t afford to buy their own materials. We thought of collecting
candy (like candy canes) but we decided one thing they would really appreciate
that they can’t afford, is toothbrushes and toothpaste so that their teeth are
properly taken care of. Well, basically.
Thank you very much, Jane Adair Klinger, Molly Debelius, Madeline Kelso
Brasunas, Violet Cavicchi, Emily McCathran, Dylan Hodges, Emily French, Joel
Shapiro.

Hall Windows Refurbishment Nearly Complete
A contract with Heritage Builders to refurbish the windows in McCathran Hall is almost
complete. The contract called for all plastic and broken panes to be replaced with glass panes, to
repair damaged woodwork and for windows and doors in the main hall to be painted and cleaned
inside and out. When all else is complete, window hardware will be installed. Town Councilors
Darrell Anderson and Allen Winter have monitored the contract on the Town’s behalf.

NOTICE
Washington Grove Residents
Please put this notice with State Income Tax Info
City, Town or Taxing Area — Washington Grove — 1612
Concern has grown in recent years, that the Town is not receiving its fair share of the State
income tax revenue. Many residents, as well as non-residents, use a Washington Grove post
office box making it difficult to tell whether the person lives in Washington Grove. It is critical
that Town residents fill in Washington Grove — 1612 in the appropriate box on their State
income tax form. If someone else prepares your tax forms, please include this notice with your
tax information. If you file electronically, please be sure you select Washington Grove under
City, Town or Taxing Area. This does not increase your taxes, but does help ensure that the
Town receives its proper share of local income tax revenue.
Even though the code for Washington Grove — 1612 — is not included with the State income tax
form, officials insist that this code helps to properly attribute taxes. This code is assigned to
Washington Grove by the Maryland State Comptroller’s Office, and it means dollars to our
community. But you are the key to those dollars, so please put the code in the assigned box on
the front of your Maryland income tax return. This revenue helps to pay for many local
government services. Thanks for your help. Questions? Call Clerk-Treasurer Mary Challstrom
at 301-926-2256.
