Mayor Anderson called the regular meeting of the Town Council to order at 7:32 p.m. In attendance were Councilors Charlie Challstrom, Joe Clark, Georgette Cole, Sylvie Favret and Marida Hines. Also present were Treasurer Mary Challstrom and residents Terry Cox, John Hutchinson, Bruce Rothrock, Nick Suzich, Tim Suzich, Steve Werts and Judy Young.
Approval of the Agenda
Joe Clark moved, Georgette Cole seconded that the agenda for May 10, 2010 be approved. Vote: 5-0.
Public Appearances
The Reverend Judy Young announced upcoming events at the Washington Grove United Methodist Church.
Ordinance No. 2010-06; Authorizing Exchange of Deeds to Resolve Boundaries for Block 9/Introduction
Charlie Challstrom moved to introduce Ordinance No. 2010-06. Joe Clark seconded the motion. A discussion about equal exchanges of land, encroachments, leases, easements, authorization and a public hearing ensued. The date for the public hearing will be set for 6/28/10. Vote: 5-0.
Streetlights/Energy Grant – Discussion
Charlie Challstrom handed out a spreadsheet which demonstrated the possible cost savings with the use of new induction light bulbs. A discussion about the energy grant, induction lighting, new/improved globes, shields and possible additional expenses ensued.
Joe Clark moved to go forward with the streetlight proposal as presented. Georgette Cole seconded the motion. Vote: 5-0.
Maintenance Committee Final Report
Joe Clark presented the Committee’s recommendations for the re-vamped Maintenance Supervisor position. The position should be filled by a full-time individual and all tasks should be kept “in-house”. The Committee also recommended that the Town stop picking up brush from private property and make a long-term landscaping plan. There was a discussion about qualifications, building maintenance, distribution of hours and winter work. The Mayor and Council agreed to go forward with the Committee recommendations of a full-time person with seasonal help. There was a brief discussion about how/where to advertise the job, a start date and a four (4) month evaluation period.
New Business
Mayor Anderson reported that Town Attorney Bill Roberts informed him of the receipt of another $50K donation to help with the current budget challenges.
