Mayor Compton called the regular meeting of the Town Council to order at 7:37 p.m. In attendance were Councilors Charlie Challstrom, Georgette Cole, Kathie Evans, Marida Hines, and David Stopak. Also present were residents Ed Roberts and John Tomlin.
Council Reports
Forestry
Georgette Cole reported that the Trash Brigade was having difficulty with the transporting of trash collected in the West Woods very near the boundary with the City of Gaithersburg. It was suggested that perhaps this effort could be shared with Gaithersburg, as in, the Trash Brigade collects the trash and G’burg picks it up. It was also suggested that Jim Fletcher could pick up the bags if Gaithersburg couldn’t help. Georgette will pursue this.
HPC
There was a discussion about the HPC’s historic marker project. It will be announced in the Bulletin again in December. It will also be an agenda item in December.
Maintenance
Kathie Evans asked for input concerning how to handle residents who do not follow the rules when it comes to leaf piles that contain sticks, trash, and other items that could foul the vacuum cleaner. A discussion ensued.
Kathie Evans also brought up the recent real estate advertisement from the Gazette pertaining to the sale of 107 Pine Avenue. This property is advertising a second dwelling which is a violation of Town code. It was decided that the Mayor would write a letter to the listing agents (Kathi and Chuck Kershaw) with copies going to the property owner, the residents, and the manager at the Long & Foster office.
Mayor’s Announcements
- LOS Condemnation: Mayor Compton reviewed the status of the judgment, the appeals, and the motions that are going back and forth between the property owner, the M-NCPPC and the Town. There was a lengthy discussion about where to go from here. Kathie Evans suggested that the Mayor do a special letter that outlined the current status and gave a clear update concerning where the Town is in the process. The Mayor agreed to do a letter but probably not until January.
- Piedmont Crossing: Mayor Compton reported that the Planning Board approved the Phase 1 site plan on November 1, 2007. Nothing can happen, in terms of an appeal, until the legal opinion is written. There was some discussion about the site plan.
New Business
There was a brief discussion about the McCauley Street/Washington Grove Lane intersection. No decisions will be made without further Town input.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:23 p.m.
